Phillips introduces backup camera system

Phillips REAR-VU camera

Phillips Industries has launched the REAR-VU Backup Camera, a cutting-edge safety and visibility tool designed for the commercial trucking sector.

Phillips says the pioneering technology is easily accessible and promises to transform trailer maneuverability and safety with its advanced features and capabilities.

"Phillips Industries has always been committed to keeping our roads safe," says Rob Phillips, CEO of Phillips Industries. "With the introduction of the REAR-VU Backup Camera, we are not just offering a product but a new vision for industry safety and efficiency. The positive response that we have received so far confirms that we are meeting a critical need which we are very proud of."

The company states the REAR-VU Backup Camera is uniquely designed to ensure that any driver can connect with any trailer equipped with the device, providing ease of use and unmatched accessibility. This universal compatibility is complemented by a robust and stable proprietary WiFi connection that extends over 70 ft., ensuring reliable and continuous service. REAR-VU integrates with any ELD navigation system, and updates to the system are streamlined through over-the-air firmware updates, Phillips adds, ensuring that the system updates automatically without the need for complicated manual upgrades.

The camera also has a 170-degree wide viewing angle, clear visibility of the bumpers and doors, over 50 ft., of visibility behind the trailer, and ultra-low latency of less than 0.25 seconds for real-time viewing. Phillips says REAR-VU enhances driver confidence and situational awareness, mitigates damage to the trailer, cargo and other obstacles, and keeps pedestrians safe. In addition to its function as a backup camera, REAR-VU can also be used continuously while driving like a rearview mirror, allowing drivers to monitor traffic behind them and make safer lane changes, the company says.

REAR-VU includes a free, dedicated mobile application available for both iOS and Android devices that enhances user experience by simplifying the setup process — drivers simply download the app, select the trailer they’re pulling, and start viewing, making the system operational within minutes

And, finally, the company states REAR-VU doubles as a dual function marker light and is designed for easy installation and maximum durability. The camera mounts with two bolts or rivets over the rear center marker light and connects directly into the existing trailer harness using .180 bullets, ensuring that it can be easily adopted across various trailer types. The REAR-VU camera can be configured to work with both standard and offset swing and roll door configurations, and is fully compatible with dual-mode center clearance brake lights as required in the Canadian market, the company says.
